Each year, over 475 economically disadvantaged children in Chester County participate in Head Start. Head Start supports families living at or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Currently, the CCIU operates 12 Head Start centers throughout the county. They are located in Coatesville, Downingtown, Kennett Square, Oxford, Octorara, Phoenixville, West Chester, and Jennersville.
The CCIU Pre K Counts Program supports 100 families living at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Those students receive 6 hours of services Monday through Friday. Pre K Counts is located in Jennersville, Phoenixville and West Chester.
Active parental involvement is required.
Head Start classes are held in full day session, Monday through Friday.
Head Start is a federally- and community-funded program.
