The past year has been one filled with much heartache in a multitude of ways. A global pandemic, along with racial injustices and social unrest, has left many people hurting and scared. The recent news of increased violence against Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders and the attack that took place in Atlanta is unacceptable and the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) condemns these actions.
The CCIU continually strives to create a community where all are welcome and where differences are celebrated. Our mission to enhance the lives of students, educators and members of our communities is the driving force of all we do. Racism, hate, discrimination and violence of any kind will not be tolerated at the CCIU. As an organization, we stand in solidarity with each one of our Asian-American and Pacific Islander students and staff members and are sensitive to the concerns and fear that these heinous acts may cause.
While we are learning and growing, we will continue to promote an environment of inclusivity and equity in each one of our buildings and will continue to work to ensure that our policies and procedures support this. We will strive to provide opportunities for our students and communities to join together for critical conversations and feel welcomed and valued and will have school counselors available to support anyone who wants to talk. Additionally, we have compiled a list of resources to talk with children about racial issues and tragedy.
